Come as you are to our new Create + Connect After-School Workshops. Held on Tuesday afternoons at the Getty Center or online, these free workshops are designed to allow for small group discussions and collaboration, and provide a creative interdisciplinary component. Each workshop will explore one theme or topic represented within the wealth of resources on our website that help teachers connect visual arts with other disciplines.

K-12 grade teachers learn about the intersections of art and science with Getty conservator Arlen Heginbotham, who will explain the conservation and scholarship around a 16th-century French cabinet in the Museum's collection. This workshop is designed to allow for small-group discussion and will give teachers the opportunity to discover and share classroom connections to one of the lessons in the Art & Science curriculum.

Secondary level teachers learned about and experimented with strategies used by photographers to picture the famous from the 1840s to the year 2000. They also shared classroom connections to the exhibition Portraits of Renown: Photography and the Cult of Celebrity.

In this webinar, teachers learned about French decorative arts and participated in a creative writing activity inspired by this area of the Museum's collection. This online workshop was suitable for history, language arts, and visual arts teachers of all grades.

How was a Chinese porcelain bowl transformed in England? What kind of wall light did Marie Antoinette have in her palace? Teachers learned about how four objects in the Museum's decorative arts collection were made and functioned, why they were collected, and how they have been displayed.

In this webinar, teachers learn how books were made in the Middle Ages and discover ideas for connecting illuminated manuscripts across curricula. This online workshop is suitable for teachers of grades K–12.

Past Program: Narrative Interventions in Photography

Secondary teachers learned how to adapt online lessons to explore the exhibition Narrative Interventions in Photography. Teachers learned about artist Carrie Mae Weems's process and experiment with contemporary strategies for appropriating historic images.
